Job Opening – Safety Officer (Shoring & Earthwork Projects)

Job Summary:
We are looking for experienced Safety Officers for shoring and earthwork projects in Doha, Qatar. The candidate will be responsible for ensuring safe execution of excavation, shoring, backfilling and other related construction activities in compliance with approved HSE procedures, project requirements and applicable safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Site Safety Management

• Conduct daily site safety inspections and identify unsafe conditions and practices.

• Conduct toolbox talks and safety awareness sessions for workers.

• Ensure proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

• Monitor site activities and ensure compliance with approved HSE plans and procedures.

• Stop unsafe work and ensure appropriate corrective actions are taken.

• Report accidents, incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions.

2. Shoring & Excavation Safety

• Inspect shoring systems, including hydraulic struts, steel props, walers, sheet piles and bracing systems.

• Ensure shoring installation follows approved drawings and engineering designs.

• Monitor excavation walls for cracks, soil movement, water seepage and signs of instability.

• Ensure safe access and exit arrangements for workers inside excavations.

• Verify excavation permits and ensure underground utilities are identified before excavation.

• Ensure workers do not enter unsupported or unsafe excavations.

3. Earthwork & Heavy Equipment Safety

• Monitor earthwork, backfilling, compaction and dewatering activities.

• Ensure safe operation of excavators, bulldozers, loaders, dump trucks and other machinery.

• Verify equipment inspections, operator competency and safety devices.

• Ensure proper traffic management, barricading, warning signs and separation of pedestrians from moving equipment.

• Monitor excavation edges, working platforms, access roads and dust-control measures.

4. Emergency Preparedness & HSE Compliance

• Ensure emergency response and rescue arrangements are available for excavation and shoring activities.

• Verify first-aid facilities, emergency access and rescue equipment.

• Coordinate with site engineers, supervisors, subcontractors and HSE teams to resolve safety issues.

5. HSE Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain and review Risk Assessments (RA), Method Statements (MS) and Permit to Work (PTW) records.

• Maintain excavation permits, daily safety inspection checklists and toolbox talk records.

• Verify equipment inspection records and operator competency certificates.

• Prepare shoring inspection reports, incident reports and daily HSE activity reports.

Key Skills & Requirements:

• Relevant experience in construction-site safety, particularly shoring, excavation and earthwork projects.

• Good knowledge of excavation safety, shoring systems and heavy equipment operations.

• Understanding of risk assessments, method statements and Permit to Work procedures.

• Ability to identify site hazards and implement effective preventive measures.

• Good communication, coordination and reporting skills.

• Ability to coordinate effectively with site engineers, supervisors and subcontractors.
