Job Description

Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline. HND - Higher national diploma. NCA certification.  Design or Project Management experience with minimum 3 years.

Health Safety & Environment 

Demonstrate a strong focus on Health, Safety and Environment by   

Complying with Environmental Health and Safety Policies and having an understanding of, and demonstrating, the 12 EHS Standards, particularly as they relate to personal accountability

Actively promoting safety awareness and environmental responsibility amongst company and contracted personnel.

Ensuring the Clauses are complaint as per MEL ISO requirements.

Accepting accountability to ensure personal safety and safety of others whilst protecting the environment.  

Reporting all personal injuries and incidents immediately over the phone followed by a written report and assisting in any investigations thereafter. 

Project Management 

Understand the scope of work and work packages by discussing with client and Electrical consultant as well as going through specs, BOQ drawings and contract.

Liaise with internal stakeholders and clients to ensure business needs are catered for during the scoping, planning, execution and close-out of projects. Various discussions that need to be had over the course of the project.

Deliver successful project outcomes measured in terms of time, cost and quality.

Material Take off for project based on drawings. These are to be updated when revised drawings are issued for construction and differences to be reported so as to generate variations.

Tracking of usage on site based on material take off on a regular basis and reporting on the same on a weekly basis.

Discuss with tendering team to understand budget and items and suppliers used at tendering stage.

Supervise site foreman and electricians/ general labour &works on site and ensuring quality control as per MEL ISO requirements.

Maintain close contact with site based project activities including periodic site visits  

Manage and Inspect installation work regularly and ensure high standards of workmanship are maintained with minimal re-works. 

Workforce management ie: Distribution of workforce on site, workforce productivity management and planning of leave of staff.

Ability to conduct interviews of electricians and assess performance during probation period as well as continuously assess and develop them once employed.

Ensure the appropriate tools & equipment are used for the task at hand.

Ensure the tools and equipment are being operated by trained personnel only.  

Maximize the efficient use of equipment from within the organization. 

Coordinate with other contractors, electrical consultants and suppliers to achieve project deliverables.  

Ensure all electricians on site have signed the respective documents confirming they understand what are the tools they are expected to carry. 

Ensure the foreman on site is doing a weekly tools check and perform a monthly spot check of electrician tools and on the foreman. A report on the same is to be presented to HR department.  

Ensure site store is in secure location such as in the container or complete room with permanent door with appropriate padlock.

Monthly site store stock-take and sign off on the stock card in appropriate section.

Ordering tools/material from MEL stores in timely manner.

Ensure payment applications for all projects are made by 20th of every month unless project requirements state otherwise.

Ensuring document control is maintained by regularly updating project file.

Represent MEL in meetings or any discussions with those involved in the project.

Prepare monthly progress report unless required more frequently by project members.

Report any difficulties on site affecting execution.

Report discussions had during site meetings to management.

Ensure accurate drawings and other as-constructed information for new installations are internally registered and shop drawings are made for execution on site.  

Preparations of working & built drawings, handing over documents in consultation with drawings, operations director, project director.  

Prepare & document RFI/RFA/COI/Variations/Procurement schedules/Financial appraisals as and when necessary  

Be available on phone at all times  

Be prepared to work the hours as per site requirements.

Attend to breakdowns at any given hour. 

Have a valid passport, ID card and driving license.

Periodic appraisal of personnel.

Get familiar with existing systems and procedures such as ERP’s and put them to practice.

Ensure all installations are in compliance with the locally accepted industry standards eg: BS standards, IEEE regulations and local regulations.
