GM Operations

The General Manager – Operations is accountable for the day-to-day running of the business: safe and efficient LPG 
distribution and reticulation, reliable customer service, and disciplined field execution across Uganda. This is a hands
on operating role for a senior LPG professional who has personally built, run, or scaled distribution operations — 
someone equally comfortable setting strategy in the boardroom and walking a depot floor or job site to fix a problem 
in real time. 

The incumbent owns the operating rhythm of the company: translating commercial and growth targets into 
functioning field operations, holding technical, customer-facing, and logistics teams accountable to a single operating 
standard, and ensuring the business scales without compromising safety, service quality, or margin discipline. 

Key Responsibilities 

Operational Leadership — Own the end-to-end performance of LPG distribution, reticulation, and downstream 
operations — cylinder and bulk supply chain, depot/warehouse management, last-mile delivery, and 
installation/reticulation project delivery. 

Team & Field Management — Directly manage and develop the Supervising Engineer, Field Operations, 
Customer Service, and Warehouse functions, setting clear targets, holding regular performance reviews, and 
building a bench of capable managers beneath them. 

Technical & Service Delivery Oversight — Set and enforce operating standards across technical delivery, 
logistics, and customer-facing teams; ensure consistent, high-quality execution across all sites and markets the 
company serves. 

Safety & Compliance — Hold ultimate accountability for safety performance across all operations, working 
closely with the Supervising Engineer to ensure zero-compromise safety culture, regulatory compliance, and 
rapid resolution of any nonconformance. 

Customer Service Ownership — Own customer satisfaction, complaint resolution, and service-level performance 
across the customer base; use field and customer data to drive continuous improvement in delivery times, 
installation turnaround, and after-sales support. 

Financial & Resource Management — Manage operating budgets, resource allocation, contractor spend, and 
cost-per-unit metrics across the business; identify and act on efficiency and margin-improvement opportunities. 

Scaling & Process Building — Build and refine operating processes, SOPs, and management systems to support 
the company's growth trajectory, drawing on prior experience scaling similar LPG or downstream gas operations. 

Reporting & Governance — Provide regular, structured operating reports and performance dashboards to the 
Managing Director/CEO covering safety, delivery, customer, and financial performance across the business. 

External Relationship Management — Represent the company in key relationships with regulators, suppliers, 
logistics partners, and major customers where operational or commercial issues require General Manager-level 
engagement.

Zero lost-time safety incidents across all supervised operations 
On-time and in-full delivery performance across distribution and reticulation projects 
Customer satisfaction scores and complaint resolution turnaround 
Operating cost per unit delivered/installed against budget 
Team retention, development, and performance-review completion across direct reports 
Achievement of operational milestones tied to company growth and scaling targets 

Required Qualifications & Experience 

Education — Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, or related discipline) or a related 
technical/operations field; an MBA or postgraduate management qualification is an advantage. 

Experience — 10+ years of progressive operational experience in LPG distribution, reticulation, and/or 
downstream gas infrastructure, including at least 3–5 years in a senior operations leadership role. 

Operator Track Record — A demonstrated track record of having built, run, or scaled LPG or downstream gas 
operations — not solely oversight from a distance, but hands-on ownership of field execution, logistics, and 
service delivery. 

People Leadership — Proven experience managing multi-disciplinary teams spanning technical, field, 
warehouse/logistics, and customer service functions, including outsourced and third-party contractor 
workforces. 

Regulatory Familiarity — Working familiarity with Ugandan (or comparable East African) regulatory frameworks 
governing LPG distribution and reticulation is strongly preferred. 

Technical & Core Competencies 

Strong grounding in LPG/downstream gas distribution operations, supply chain, and reticulation/installation 
project delivery 

Sound understanding of LPG safety standards, pressure testing, and equipment certification requirements 
sufficient to hold technical teams accountable 

Strong financial and commercial acumen — budgeting, cost management, and margin analysis across multi-site 
operations 

Excellent people leadership skills, with the ability to build teams, set standards, and drive performance across 
field, technical, and customer-facing functions 

Strong customer service orientation and experience embedding service standards into an operating business 

Proven ability to build and implement operational processes and systems that support business scaling 

Excellent communication, reporting, and stakeholder management skills, including with regulators, suppliers, and 
senior leadership 

High level of physical fitness and willingness to travel frequently and work hands-on in field and depot 
environments 

A valid driver's license and willingness to travel extensively across Uganda 

High personal integrity, sound judgment, and the presence to lead confidently under operational pressure 
Working Conditions 

This role is based in Kampala but requires frequent and sometimes short-notice travel to depots, distribution points, 
and project sites across Uganda. The General Manager – Operations must move comfortably between strategic and 
management work in the office and hands-on, on-the-ground operational leadership in the field, including active 
construction, installation, and distribution environments.
